I am in constant awe of the complexity, beauty and wisdom of nature and its bountiful wonders at every scale. The Earth, in its ancient wisdom, has much to teach us if we are willing to pay attention. My favorite way to do this, is sitting on a bench. They are often strategically placed facing an enticing view or under a shaded tree. Benches invite us to take a beat, enjoy the company of loved ones or strangers, and make new memories that develop slowly within us like a long exposure photo. In this fast-paced society, the act of slowing down can be seen as unnecessary or even wrong. But I think that this act is vital to our growth and possible impact. Today’s systemic challenges require novel solutions rooted in collaboration and consideration. Next time you encounter a bench outdoors, take a seat and look up, down and all around you. You never know what you may notice – and what it can inspire within.

ABOUT ME

Born in Colombia and raised in South Florida, I have been blessed to be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and vibrant communities my entire life. A decade in Atlanta- the city in the forest centered around music and food - shaped my joie de vivre and grew the love I have for this crazy, colorful and beautiful world.

Being my father's flashlight-holder in command throughout my childhood taught me that everything has a fix if you take the time to understand how it works. And that the fundamentals of Physics get you through pretty much any problem.

My mother, on the other hand, is the embodiment of empathy. Teaching me through example that the universal language really is love and respect. And that taking the time to understand others' perspectives is the most effective way to building lasting relationships.

I am a mosaic of the love and support I have been shown my entire life. I come equipped with endless laughter, ever-growing curiosity, and an insatiable desire to help foster the vibrancy of our natural world and the lives inhabiting it.

My natural inclination to maths and science, and lineage of engineers, made my engineering degree a no-brainer. However, it was understanding the responsibility of creating for the masses that led me to pursue design as well; not only focusing on how we build solutions, but also asking why and understanding for whom we build them.

This is the lens I see the world through and I am determined to dedicate my work to the betterment of society and the built environment. Equipped with a technical background and empathetic nature, I am a natural leader bringing the best out of the talented people I work with while keeping a broad, systems-level perspective and a clear direction toward a clearly defined and shared vision.
