Designed to fit seamlessly in every day life, cable climbers add a little whimsy to an everyday object: chargers.

100 units were realized from concept to product using rapid prototyping, CNC Machining and Injection Molding techniques.

Learning these processes were a cornerstone of my self-selected graduate curriculum. While injection molding is used to create billions of single-use and hard-to-recycle plastic parts today - it is also a standard industrial practice which I wanted to understand end-to-end in order to find a way to make it more circular in the near future.

The final project for ME 325: Making Multiples prompted me to:

  • Design a part or family of injection molded parts that can be molded in the Product Realization Lab.

  • Your part(s) should demonstrate some functionality.

  • The part(s) that you design must: interact in a geometrically specific and meaningful way with multiple copies of itself/themselves and/or should fit/connect with an existing part or assembly

My personal goals with this project were to:

  • Create something that can be used as a single unit or multiples.

  • Create many multiples that I can give to friends and family after graduation

  • Explore family molds and insert molding
